“Our goal is to provide our ContiTread licensees with a complete product offering that allows dealers to grow their business with premium products, engineering and technical assistance, as well as operational support,” explains John Barnes, ContiLifeCycle Manager for the Americas. Proprietary retread shop software to provide for efficient and effective operations and ContiMachinery, retreading shop machinery engineered by Continental to meet the strict specifications, will soon be offered. Continental also wants to be a single source for retreading supplies, offering more than 800 articles required for successful retreading operations in the Americas.
There are currently 18 product lines offered in NAFTA and 13 in Latin America that match the new Continental truck tire products in tread design and performance. As new tires are introduced, they will be accompanied by a matching ContiTread so that fleets can enjoy the same performance from the new tire all the way through to its final retread life. “Thanks to advances in casing construction with our Generation 3 products, with proper maintenance, a Continental truck tire can enjoy up to four lifetimes – the new tire plus as many as three retreadings,” says Paul Williams, Head of Truck Tires the Americas. Eventually the product portfolio will be filled with a ContiTread that matches each new tire.
Continental was the first North American retread manufacturer to offer an “open shoulder” drive position retread that is verified by the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership for low rolling resistance. It was also the first manufacturer to submit its products to SmartWay’s verified technologies program and to offer both a drive and trailer position SmartWay verified retread. SmartWay is a public/private collaboration between the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight transportation industry that helps freight shippers, carriers, and logistics companies improve fuel-efficiency and save money.
